Engineering education

Engineering provision that employers trust and inspectors respect.

I've taught and led engineering in FE and HE since 2007 — lecturer, Head of Engineering, Head of Centre. I help institutions build programmes employers want to hire from, pass awarding-body and Ofsted scrutiny, bring staff up to speed in CAD, additive manufacturing and AI, and respond to AI in assessment with a plan rather than a ban.

What I can do for you

  • Curriculum & programme development

Schemes of work, project-based units, HNC/HND and foundation degree development — mapped to awarding-body outcomes and built around real engineering tasks.

  • Apprenticeships & employer engagement

Standards-based apprenticeship provision with an anchor employer, and the relationships that make other employers follow.

  • Quality & inspection readiness

An honest baseline on achievement, retention and assessment practice, then the systems and evidence that hold up under awarding-body review and Ofsted.

  • Staff CPD

Practical upskilling in CAD (to SOLIDWORKS certification), additive manufacturing and AI — so the curriculum keeps pace with industry.

  • AI in teaching & assessment

A whole-institution response: staff confidence, clear rules on use and disclosure, and assessment redesigned so learners’ own thinking stays visible.

  • Interim leadership

Hands-on cover or support for an engineering department through a gap, a restructure or an inspection.

SGS COLLEGE · APPRENTICESHIPS

An apprenticeship employers queued for

I developed the Mechatronics Maintenance Technician apprenticeship at SGS College with Dyson as anchor employer. Five apprentices became twelve as other companies joined.

400+learners · 20+ staff · 3 trades

Quality that held at scale

As Vocational & Technical Leader and Head of Centre for EAL, BTEC and City & Guilds, I ran engineering, motor vehicle and electrical provision through multiple inspections.

PEARSON · QUALITY REVIEW
BTECEngineering HE · QD reviewer

I know what reviewers look for

As a Pearson Assessment Associate I review BTEC Engineering HE delivery. Your provision is designed by someone who has sat on the other side of the table.

SGS COLLEGE · CAD CERTIFICATION

Training that ended in a credential

My engineering provision at SGS delivered SOLIDWORKS academic certification, so learners left with an examined industry credential, not just attendance.

What should colleges teach when AI can do the routine work?

My paper Human Literacy in an Age of Non-Human Intelligence sets out a response for colleges, awarding bodies and policymakers.

How we'd work together

  1. 01

    Free first call

30 minutes on your situation. I’ll tell you honestly whether I can help.

  2. 02

    Provision review

A fixed-scope look at a programme or department — data, documents, observation and staff conversations — ending in a written report with prioritised actions.

  3. 03

    Development project

A defined deliverable: a new programme, an apprenticeship route, an assessment strategy or a CPD series, at a fixed price agreed up front.

  4. 04

    Ongoing or interim support

Regular days alongside your team, or interim leadership cover, at a day rate.

Defined work gets a fixed quote before anything starts; ongoing support is by day rate. More on how I work.
